About
Jo Ben-Shmuel is an actor and teaching artist who centers queer joy, accessibility, and compassion in her work. She earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Musical Theatre from Cornish College of the Arts, where she also completed a teaching assistantship in a collegiate-level musical theatre course, giving her hands-on coaching experience at a high educational level. Jo has also completed theatre education internships in San Francisco, California and Seattle, Washington.

Jo’s work is rooted in her identity as a queer woman, and her queerness manifests itself in euphoria, humor, and community, rather than the pain, heartbreak, and violence that is often associated with living as an openly queer individual. She is dedicated to honoring the queer experience as that of joy and educating students of all ages on the importance of generosity in theatremaking.
